15N uptake fom manure and fertilizer sources by three consecutive crops under controlled conditions Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Garza,Héctor Mario Quiroga; Delgado,Jorge A.; Wong,José Antonio Cueto; Lindemann,William C..
There are several regions of the world where soil N analysis and/or N budgets are not used to determine how much N to apply, resulting in higher than needed N inputs, especially when manure is used. One such region is the North Central "La Comarca Lagunera", one of the most important dairy production areas of Mexico. We conducted a unique controlled greenhouse study using 15N fertilizer and 15N isotopic-labeled manure that was labeled under local conditions to monitor N cycling and recovery under higher N inputs. The manure-N treatment was applied only once and was incorporated in the soil before planting the first forage crop at an equivalent rate of 30, 60 and 120 Mg ha-1 dry manure. The 15N treatments were equivalent to 120 and 240 kg ha-1 (NH4)2SO4-N...

Grain crops and forage yield resulting from the use of phosphates in integrated production system Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Galetto,Shivelly Los; Fonseca,Adriel Ferreira da; Harkatin,Silvano; Reifur,Hendrik Ivan; Carvalho,Igor Quirrenbach de.
The aim of this study was to assess the effects of the sources and levels of surface-applied (broadcast) phosphorus (P) when sowing the winter annual forages on phosphorus accumulation and yields of maize, soybean, black oat and annual ryegrass crops in a crop-livestock integration system over three years. The experiment was established in April 2009, in the municipality of Castro, Parana, Brazil. The treatments consisted of the broadcast application when sowing the winter forages of four doses (0, 60, 120 and 180 kg ha-1 year-1) of total P2O5 as triple superphosphate (TSP), rock phosphate (RP-Arad) and magnesium termophosphate (MTP). The dry matter yields of black oat (2009 and 2011), annual ryegrass (2010), maize (2009/10 and 2011/12) and soybean...

Lolium multiflorum seeds in the soil: I. Soil seed bank dynamics in a no til system Rev. bras. sementes
Maia,Fernanda Costa; Maia,Manoel de Souza; Bekker,Renée M.; Berton,Rogério Previatti; Caetano,Leandro Sebastião.
The objective of the study was to characterize annual ryegrass seed population dynamics, managed for natural re-sowing, in no til systems in rotation with soybean, in different chronosequences An area was cultivated for two years with soybean, left as fallow land for the next two years and then cultivated again with soybean for the next two years. The four chronosequences represented different management periods, two with soybean (6 and 8 years old) and the other two resting (3 and 9 years old). Soil samples were taken every month during one year and divided into two depths (0-5 and 5-10 cm). Vegetation dynamics were also evaluated (number of plants, inflorescences and seedlings). Soil seed bank (SSB) dynamics showed structural patterns in time, with a...

Lolium Multiflorum seeds in the soil: II. Longevity under natural conditions Rev. bras. sementes
Maia,Fernanda Costa; Maia,Manoel De Souza; Bekker,Renée M.; Berton,Rogério Previatti; Caetano,Leandro Sebastião.
The interest was the seed longevity dynamics of annual ryegrass in natural conditions as an important tool to explain its dynamics in no tillage systems used in the South of Brazil. The species is commonly managed for natural re-sowing and, in this way, allows cattle grazing with reduced costs during the winter time. In February of 2003, twenty bags of nylon screen containing sterilised soil with 100 seeds in each were randomly buried in the field, 5 cm deep. Around every three or four months, four sacks were exhumed. Seeds were counted and tested using germination and tetrazolium tests. The seeds showed high primary dormancy, which was overcome very fast. After 108, 226, 326, 565 and 732 days of burial there were no significant differences as the secondary...

Optimal management of annual ryegrass ( Lolium rigidum Gaud.) in phase rotations in the Western Australian Wheatbelt AgEcon
Doole, Graeme J..
Lucerne ( Medicago sativa L.) helps to prevent soil salinisation in the Western Australian Wheatbelt by reducing recharge to saline water tables. There is broad consensus, though, that it is not sufficiently profitable to motivate producers to plant it at the intensity at which considerable off-site benefits would be conferred. This paper employs a multiple-phase optimal control model to explore the value of this perennial pasture for the management of herbicide-resistant annual ryegrass ( Lolium rigidum Gaud.) in a crop–pasture rotation, given the difficulty of observing this value in practice. The availability of selective herbicides for efficient weed control is found to determine whether or not it is profitable to adopt lucerne pasture under optimal...
